What Flyway keeps

You can play Flyway without telling it who you are. It keeps your guesses, with no name on them. If you sign in, it keeps your email address, so your games can follow you between devices. Nothing is sold, and there are no ads at present. If that changes, this page will say so first.

If you just play

Your scores, your streak and your stats are kept in your own browser. Clear the site's data there and they are gone.

Each guess is also sent to Flyway's server: which bird, where you put the pin, how far out it was, the points, and how long you took. This is how the game can say what share of the day's players you beat, and how its keeper learns which birds fool people. The guesses are filed under a random number your browser makes up, not under a name. The server keeps only a scrambled form of that number.

The pins say where you think a bird is. They do not say where you are, and Flyway never asks.

If you sign in

Signing in is optional. It lets your games, streak and stats follow you from one device to another.

By email. Flyway keeps your email address with your games. It sends you a sign-in email when you ask for one, and nothing else. A note of each of those emails is kept for a day or so, to limit how many one address can be sent.

With Google. Google tells Flyway your email address and the number Google gives your account. Flyway keeps those two things, and uses them only to sign you in. Google's message also carries your name and your profile picture. Flyway does not keep them or use them. It asks Google for nothing else: no contacts, no calendar, no files.

Signing out on a device empties that device. Your games stay with your account.

Cookies and what your browser stores

While you are signed in, two cookies hold your session. They last 400 days and are renewed while you keep coming back. Your browser's storage holds your games, your settings, the random number described above and, while you are signed in, your email address.

Google Analytics sets cookies of its own. That is the next part.

Counting visits

Flyway uses Google Analytics to count visits and to see how the game is played: a game started, a guess made, a result shared. Google receives those along with the kind of device and browser you use and the rough area you are in. It is not sent your email address. A blocker that stops Google Analytics does not stop the game.

Who else handles it

These companies may handle the data in the United States or elsewhere. Flyway gives it to nobody else.

Feedback

A message sent from the feedback page is emailed to the person who runs Flyway, with your email address if you gave one and the name of your browser. It is not kept on the site.

Seeing it, and having it removed

To see what is kept about your account, or to have the account and its games deleted, write through the feedback page and give the address you sign in with.

Guesses sent without an account carry nothing that says whose they are, so they cannot be picked out and removed.

Who runs Flyway

Flyway is a personal project, made and run by one person. That person can see the email addresses of accounts. The feedback page reaches them.
